New York Time: Holiday Makeup Tips by Celebrity Makeup Artist Nicole Bryl

Here is my special Christmas present for my readers. I asked my friend Nicole Bryl, celebrity makeup artist from New York, to show you the perfect makeup for the Holidays. If you would like to know more of Nicole’s beauty secrets, you should take a look at my interview with her (part 1 and part 2).

NB LOGOHello Sue Loves NYC followers!
This holiday why not pump up your look with extra lashes, eyeliner and a glossy lip stain for a splash of Weihnachten color!
Don’t let the dark clouds and dreary weather get you down, let your glam makeup creation be your sunshine!
In NYC we tend to amp up both the eyes and mouth together during the winter holiday’s for a more urban sophisticated look.
I always make sure to use plenty individual lashes with a dark black line right at the lash line creating extra pop to the lashes and eyes.
It’s also very important during these cold months to drink extra water. This internal hydration brings needed moisture to your skin that you are not getting from the humidity of the summer air. We cannot let our faces dry out at this time or else we will look sickly.

Also, very important, make sure to prime your skin before applying your makeup with
your favorite face cream so your skin doesn’t crack once you put on your makeup.
When you are living in cold dry winter air your poor skin can suffer, so skipping this step ist verboten!

Here I created a moisturized bright red holiday mouth with lashes and liner on top. An example of how you don’t have to go that heavy with your makeup to look festive and pretty!

I love to really pump up Maria’s lashes. Here I have stacked the individual lashes one on top of another using black eyelash adhesive (which blends with the makeup better) and again I added a thin black eyeliner. I also added a light smokey shadow and lip stain for a touch of extra color. Notice, I did not add too much powder here to Maria’s well moisturized skin. This creates an illusion that it’s warm outside or perhaps that she’s just HOT anytime of year ;-)

Nicole Bryl Holiday Makeup #3Image #3 – From one of my recent editorial photo shoots in NYC. If there is a little “Gaga” in you, winter holiday makeup can be as dramatic as you like!!! This is the time where it will stand out in a fun way because everything else is so dull outside and drama can be truly embraced! Just be playful and enjoy yourself! Hey, why not wear this look to your next Max Raabe concert with a black lace dress. Could be fun! Love Max Raabe!

Happy Holiday’s to All!

Liebe Grüsse,
NB!

Read about Nicole Bryl’s beauty secrets and her opinion on BB Cream today!

Is there a beauty secret that you can reveal? Small tricks you can offer?

Never go to sleep with make-up on (sleeping with makeup on really cracks and dries out your poor skin). Don’t drink too much alcohol (alcohol dehydrates your skin making it look tired and worn out). Drink lots of water (hydration is a huge all over beauty secret).

Try and eat as many raw green veggies or drink as much raw green veggie juice as possible (after adding this to your diet you won’t believe how much younger and healthier your skin will look in a short amount of time). Stop smoking (it’s creates so many extra wrinkles)!

Everybody is talking about BB Creams. What do you think of the new formula?

Blemish Balm Cream a.k.a BB Cream, is one of Asia’s most sought after beauty products right now. Originally used by German dermatologists’ to sooth & regenerate skin after laser sugery, BB cream is a great product for all those who have troubled skin and need some healing components. If you have oily skin or pimples BB cream might be the perfect option for you. It’s an all in one product & does provide a good coverage without being too heavy but I would still suggest using your normal moisturizer or SPF under it first to make sure your skin has the maximum amount of hydration & protection needed throughout the day. All in one products are great, but remember that when it’s all in one it is each specific component is diluted down from it’s original concentration. So for instance never think that just because there is a high SPF in any given product that you are truly getting the full benefits of a concentrated SPF. Some people say that this is the best BB cream and never leaves them oily.

I like many different kinds so you just have to play and see which one feels right on your own skin!

Interview: Nicole Bryl Make-Up New York – part one

Nicole Bryl

Nicole Bryl is a famous make-up artist living in New York City. Among her clients: the Hilfiger Family, the Trump Family, Naomi Watts and many more. I got the chance to ask her a few questions. Today you can read about beauty trends, which royals have already been clients of Nicole, she reveals beauty secrets and much more – have fun!

I read that you always dreamed of being a make-up artist. What fascinates you about your job? Are there also downsides?

Things I love about being a Freelance Make-up Artist…. well to be clear, living the life of “freelancer” no matter what you do is already a unique way of living.

First of all let me acknowledge how wonderful is it to get paid to be creative everyday and to be able to pick and choose my projects and clients! I am super grateful for this freedom and because of it I truly love the people I choose to spend my days with!

I am happiest not going to the same location everyday. If I had to sit at the same desk in the same room day after day I think I would slowly die. I need to constantly move like a car needs fuel. I enjoy being on the go professionally.

Seeing new faces and new locations each day keeps life fresh for me. Even if I am working with the same clients year after year I never feel couped up or in a routine in anyway because we are usually in their homes or hotel rooms or on a plane or helicopter or some other location thats enjoyable or breezy. For me this is what makes life interesting.

I know quit well that there are so many people out there that would hate this feeling of “not knowing” where they will be the next day as it is all based on blind faith when you freelance, but to me this is work life at it’s best and I never tire from it.

Oddly enough, this kind of running around comes with one big downfall which I do not enjoy at all and this is the constant schlepp. Because I am always running from one location to the next with my very heavy work gear in and out of taxi cabs up and down stairs packing and unpacking my kit all day long day after day year after year my poor back begins to scream at me after a while and I can feel really physically exhausted by the end of the day. But hey, nothing is perfect and as long as my body will carry me forward I will keep running around. This is also why I usually take the entire month of August off each year. One full month to totally unwind. I always head straight to Berlin of course. A city that totally recharges my creative batteries and the place I call home when I am in Europe. There I enjoy “me” time with many friends that I have adopted as family over the years!

What is the look for this summer? What are the current make-up trends?

The biggest color trends for 2012 spring/summer is sea foam/mint green, as well neon’s on lips and nails, such as oranges, bright blues, yellows, greens and hot pinks.
